The starting point for any business to understand what their overall level of carbon emissions are is to undertake a carbon audit.
The audit will provide you with an indication of your net carbon position (are you a net emitter or a net sequester of carbon) on an overall farm basis and also on a per enterprise basis.
We will provide you with a calculation of your emissions per kg of product that you produce on farm and benchmark your position relative to other similar farm types.
We use the Agrecalc carbon calculator, developed by SRUC as we feel it provides the best means of assessing both your overall carbon footprint and that of your individual farm enterprises.
We look to add value to your audit where possible by considering what practices you may need to change to get closer to net-zero : perhaps changing tillage practice, planting more trees or developing renewable energy as examples.
Carbon Audits are free!
Funding is available in Scotland through SGRPID to enable eligible farming businesses to get a free carbon audit. Laurence Gould are able to provide this service in England and Scotland so contact your local office or our bespoke carbon team for more information on how to start the process.
Farmers in Scotland who undertake a carbon audit are also eligible for a grant towards soil sampling, get in touch to find out more or click here to find out more.
