Moving to net-zero will require many changes to our lifestyles and working practices and agriculture and land use have a key role to play in this as land is able to provide a sink for carbon storage either through soil carbon or woodland carbon sequestration.

Although this is part of the overall market for Natural Capital Services, the carbon market is significantly more developed than other sectors and private business are paying for carbon offsets as part of their move to net zero.

The pressure for change is real and the developing carbon market provides farmers and landowners with an alternative land use going forwards.

Laurence Gould have been following this developing market since it began and were involved in assessing carbon auditing tools as far back as 10 years ago, alongside undertaking life cycle analysis of particular sectors of agriculture.
